The A to Z of AI Accounting Software (Atozai)

Working with AccountingWEB and FAB

By Damon Anderson, 22 September 2026. 2 minute read.

The accounting industry is awash with AI, and navigating the noise has never been harder.

Every week brings another vendor launch, another claim, another promise. Much of it is unproven. For accountants, bookkeepers and finance teams, the question is no longer whether AI matters. It is which of it is real, what fits their firm, and what to do next.

That is the problem the A to Z exists to solve. It is also why, over the next six months, I am working with AccountingWEB and FAB as they develop their AI programme for FAB 2027.

Why AccountingWEB and FAB

For as long as I have worked in this industry, AccountingWEB has been one of its most established and trusted voices. For years I read the comments under its articles religiously. They were often spicy, always candid, and came from a wider range of practitioners than you will find almost anywhere else. They keep you honest, and they keep software vendors honest too.

FAB has become a genuine staple of the calendar in the same way. If the conversation about AI in accounting is going to move from hype to something useful, it needs to happen where the profession already is.

What does not change

The A to Z remains independent and evidence led. Every vendor is assessed against the same published method, with the evidence shown alongside.

This partnership includes a commercial arrangement with Sift, which owns AccountingWEB and FAB. It has no bearing on any assessment, ranking or published criteria, and it never will. No vendor can buy a rank, a badge or a place on the map, through this partnership or any other.

I am an optimist. I think AI is a force for good in this profession. But the best solution for a firm is rarely the loudest one, and no ranking, mine included, can tell you what is right for yours. That takes evidence, context and some honest judgement, and that is what I want to bring to AccountingWEB's readers.

I will be part of this conversation wherever it is happening. More soon.
